About the Mount Elgon Trust
Established in 2005
Who We Are
The Mount Elgon Trust was established in 2005 to sustainably enhance the economic and living standards of the population of the Chepchoina area. The Trust aims to achieve this through an integrated approach, taking into account developing the knowledge and skills of the people by providing educational services, improving the local labor market, offering adequate medical facilities and providing adequate living facilities. In the past 14 years, The Trust has sponsored the growth of the Andersen Development Village by constructing a hospital, early childhood development centre, primary school, secondary school, vocational training centre, children’s home, special needs education classroom, affordable housing scheme with 94 houses, and infrastructure for the supply of electricity and water.
The Guesthouse as an Institution
The Andersen Vocational Training Centre was established in 2013 in the Andersen Development Village. The centre currently runs 9 vocational courses, including motor vehicle technology, hair dressing and beauty therapy, fashion design and garment marking, masonry, agri-business and metal processing, among others.
The Trust received a grant in 2017 to build the Mount Elgon Guesthouse to function as a site for practicals for our newest vocational course, hospitality and catering. Trainees practice their new skills by assisting our guesthouse employees in serving real clients. Andersen VTC provides their trainees with an incredibly high quality environment to gain experience, while allowing guests to enjoy a beautiful and relaxing stay.
